Tamil Nadu Election Result 2026: BJP says it is 'in the reckoning as trends emerge in key states

BJP spokesperson Tom Vadakkan said the party was “in the reckoning” in West Bengal, expressing confidence as early trends emerged from Assembly election counting across four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Speaking to ANI, he said the political situation in Tamil Nadu was complex due to multiple strong regional players and identity-based politics shaping voter behaviour.

“In West Bengal, we are in the reckoning. In Assam, we are already there,” he said.

Referring to Tamil Nadu, Vadakkan highlighted the presence of major forces including the ruling DMK, the AIADMK, and the growing influence of actor-politician Vijay.

Early trends from Tamil Nadu showed a strong performance by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which was leading in around 98 constituencies, ahead of both Dravidian majors. The AIADMK-led alliance was ahead in 63 seats, while the DMK was trailing with leads in about 35 constituencies.

The DMK also faced setbacks, with chief minister M K Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin reportedly trailing in their Chennai seats.

Tamil Nadu Election Result 2026: TVK confident of majority as Vijay-led party leads in Tamil Nadu trends

TVK national spokesperson Felix Gerald on Monday expressed confidence that the party would form the government in Tamil Nadu with an absolute majority, as early trends showed the new entrant making a strong showing in its electoral debut. Speaking to PTI Videos, he said the results were in line with expectations and claimed that voters were turning away from established parties.

“They may have 50 to 75 years of experience, but they have only used it to loot the state,” Gerald alleged, adding that people now see TVK as a credible alternative.

According to Election Commission data, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, was ahead in around 83 constituencies. The AIADMK-led alliance followed with 58 seats, while the ruling DMK was trailing in third place with 34.

Within hours of counting beginning, TVK surged ahead of both Dravidian majors, with strong performance reported across several Chennai constituencies, traditionally considered DMK strongholds. If sustained, the trends could mark one of the most significant electoral upsets in Tamil Nadu politics.

However, a poor showing by the DMK would contradict exit polls that had projected an advantage for the ruling party under chief minister M K Stalin’s “Dravidian model” g

overnance.

Tamil Nadu Election Result 2026: DMK confident of strong mandate as Tamil Nadu trends emerge

DMK MP Kalanidhi Veeraswamy on Monday expressed confidence that the party is on “very firm footing” and set to form the government again in Tamil Nadu with a strong mandate. Speaking to ANI, he urged caution against drawing conclusions from early postal ballot trends but noted that even those results were favourable to the DMK.

“Going by the postal votes alone, we cannot say anything, but even there we are leading. We are confident of forming the government with a strong majority. The DMK 2.0 will continue Tamil Nadu’s progress,” he said.
